Folk Drama:

There are some scholars that have mentioned in their research paper that most of the Greek tragedies find their origin in the folklores. These folklores were based on certain rites which celebrated the life, death, and rebirth of the vegetational God Dionysus. Therefore, folk drama originated in these primitive rites of dance and song especially in connection with agricultural activities. Which centered on vegetation deities and Goddesses of fertility. In England, these folk dramas survive in the form of Saint George’s play and the mummers’ play (mummer was a masked actor).

Another popular form of folk drama finds its example in India. There are various folklores regarding the two worshipped characters of Ramayana Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. For several years their stories were transferred from generation. to generation in the form of folklores and these folklores had certain points that were not mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana itself.

There are even several countries that believe in the folklore of the vampire and werewolf rivalry. Therefore, this topic has become the plot of various novels and dramas. Written in the contemporary time as well as in the past. 

Folk songs:

Folk Songs are another form of folklore that include sea shanties, love songs, children games songs, Christmas carols, work songs, religious songs, drinking songs and many other. Such types of lyrics as well as narrative songs or traditional ballads (a ballad is a poem that conveys a moral). They may include fairy tales which are not exactly stories of fairies but of various kinds of marvels like Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, etc. Another type of folktale are the anecdotes that still continue to be a staple of social exchange. 

These folklores have found their place in almost all countries of the world. In fact, a prominent example of it is Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales that includes a number of folktales like “The Pardoner’s Tale” of death and the like. 

In this manner, folktales have found for themselves a prominent place in the world of writing and have developed from oral stories to written ones.  These folktales remain very close to each of our hearts since they have been narrated to us. By someone very close and thus, we have a close acquaintance to the characters of these stories.
